Trip of treats

During the festival of Tihar last October our children played ‘Bailo' – a nice variation of trick or treat (‘nice’ in the sense that there are no tricks). Children travel from door-to-door singing and dancing before they are fed – and often given a donation as well.

In 2007 the children spent the money they raised to buy football strips in their house colours for all the children at the refuge – items the children love to wear for all of the house competitions we stage throughout the year.

This year they set out with the intention of raising money for a drum kit – but as the pictures show, they did rather better than they initially hoped to. Visits to staff homes and our friends at the Hotel Courtyard in Thamel were generously received.

This month our team of volunteers arriving in Nepal includes some talented young musicians, so we'll keep you posted on the progress.

Watch a video of the children performing.
