As well as being a great exercise for the mosaic students, the mural has proved a popular introduction to the local community.

Passers-by can often be seen gazing at its wonderful array of colours and smiling as they recognise the landmarks depicted in it.

Art centre in the news!

It is now just over two years since we introduced an integrated art workshop in Bhairahawa to teach deaf young people and child trafficking survivors a range of skills that can help them towards an independent life as professional mosaic artists.

The initiative has been such a success that we now hope to introduce art to a wider audience in south-west Nepal.

The plan is to make the centre become a local hub for art activities coordinated by the deaf students we have been teaching, and in the process help to make the community aware of the enormous potential deaf young people possess.
