More children rescued from lives of abuse

EBT's local partner NGO has successfully rescued seven Nepali boys from Indian children's 'homes' - centres which can often appear to incarcerate rather than care for the children resident in them.

Of the children, six had ended up in India in search of work to escape chronic poverty, while one had been trafficked. (The agent responsible for this latter boy's 'sale' has also been captured and charged, pending trial - he can expect anything up to 20 years in prison if he is found guilty of child trafficking.)

After every rescue trip we work with the authorities and any surviving families to work out whether the children can safely be reunited. Any child who has no family to return to will of course be offered the same full-time residential refuge we currently provide to over 120 children.

We are committed to delivering this round-the-clock care to every child who needs our support. If you feel able to give a helping hand, you might like to learn more about our Child Sponsorship programme.
