Introducing mosaic to Nepal
In 2006 the Trust’s Founder/Director Philip Holmes introduced two former circus girls – Rina and Manju – to his passion for making mosaics. He was curious to see if they would have the interest and aptitude to cut tiles to produce art works as wall plaques.
The girls’ enthusiastic response exceeded his expectations and encouraged him to bring more survivors of trafficking to his studio. By the end of 2007, twenty girls had been trained and held their first exhibition in Kathmandu, an event which was opened by The British Ambassador to Nepal.
The Trust is now helping to train trafficking survivors and deaf school leavers in mosaic art in our Integrated Art Workshop, enabling them to take up commissions that will help them into an independent adult life.
