London Marathon 2008
On Sunday 13th April seven of our supporters joined
34,000 hardy souls to run 26.2 miles across the capital.
We are delighted that all of the runners successfully completed the course. Now that they have
recovered fully from their exertions a few of them have given us their personal accounts of the whole experience:
"After 23 weeks of religiously following my training programme
I still managed to feel like I was not quite ready for the "big
run" on 13th April. However, I was spurred on by the crowds of people
lining the route with jelly babies and shouting out encouragement.
The first 13 miles were enjoyable(!) but after that things began
to get painful and being caught in a hail storm certainly didn't
help. However, by sheer determination, knowing that every mile completed
would help the EBT to do even more work for the children of Nepal
and not letting a giant banana overtake me, I managed to reach the
finish line in 4hrs 37 mins."
(Fiona Maslin from Hart Brown Solicitors)
"Despite not being able to walk for a week, and then having x-rays taken of my knee to find that
my knee caps have moved out of line, I can wholeheartedly say that every step taken over the 26 miles was worth it knowing that all the money raised was benefiting the children in Nepal. Reaching our fundraising target was tough, but a Krispy Kreme doughnut sale at work went down a treat. It was a life long ambition and achievement to cross the finish line and I was proud to be one of the small team of runners supporting The Esther Benjamins Trust and wearing their t-shirt."
