CANADA CONFIRMED
We are delighted to confirm that The Esther Benjamins Trust will
now be formally represented in North America, following the successful
creation of EBT Canada.
Paul Richards - a commissioned officer
and Inspector with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Vancouver,
British Columbia – has been a keen supporter of The Esther
Benjamins Trust for a number of years.
Having worked alongside Nepali Gurkhas in Kosovo
and Afghanistan, Paul began to learn about the plight of children
in Nepal. Initially supporting us through donations and by generating
interest in his local community, Paul sought to do more to help
raise our profile across the whole of Canada.
After a great deal of research and hard work –
which has taken the better part of 3 years – Paul has registered
The Esther Benjamins Trust Canada (EBTC) under the Canadian international
charities law. Following discussions with Philip Holmes, EBTC will
specifically focus on providing educational scholarships and bursaries
to children within our CEDAR programme.
‘Education can create opportunities for fulfilment
and growth,’ says Paul. ‘In this sense, the objective
will be to raise money for the education scholarships/bursaries
for candidates nominated by EBT in Nepal.’
This is great news for the charity: while we are
fortunate to have education sponsors for many of the children in
our care, there remain many girls and boys who would benefit greatly
from the support that sponsorship provides.
