Three Lucky Birds

These three cockerels might well be discussing the issues raised in the celebrity chef-led campaign to encourage better treatment of their UK cousins who are destined for the dinner table.

Whatever their topic of conversation is, they certainly have a better life than many of the birds whose plight has been brought to the UK's attention in the television programmes that have marked the beginning of 2008. These birds are the creations of one of the students attending our Child Trafficking Victims Art Workshops and will soon be displaying beautiful colours of her choice.

Under the expert tuition of Alex Hunter (right), a professional ceramicist, the older circus returnees who cannot enter formal education are finding therapy and vocational skills in pottery that will enable them to recover from their traumas and begin the road to happy, independent lives.

The second of our workshops recently began, with Alex joined by professional sculptor Rebecca Hawkins who will further extend the skills of the artists over the three-month duration of the course.
