EBT coordinates two main programmes in
Nepal. CEDAR operates in Bhairahawa and
Butwal, while PACT is based in Kathmandu
and Hetauda.
The two projects are outlined below:
The Child Education, Development and Reintegration
Programme (CEDAR)
CEDAR is our longest-established
programme for children we have rescued from the streets and prisons
of Nepal and the circuses of India. It aims to exceed the basic
expectations of childcare and education and in the process recognise
the diverse range of talents and interests Nepali children have.
In 2002 we commissioned a seminal
survey which uncovered the true extent of child trafficking within
Nepal. The results led us to develop our second key focus area,
the Programme Against Child Trafficking (PACT) in 2004.
PACT has now grown
into our largest project, through which we have so far rescued over
280 children from bonded labour in India's circus industry.
