What We Do - Rescue Agency
Rescue of vulnerable children from India
Since 2004 we have been rescuing children and young people from abusive Indian circuses (video and first picture) where they were held as bonded labourers. Ostensibly there as performers they were effectively imprisoned - bound to illegal contracts and kept behind high fences.
During the period 2004-2011 we conducted rescue operations in conjunction with the police and local authorities that have led to approximately 700 children being freed.
Moving forward
In 2010 we extended our reach to Nepali children who have ended up one way or another in India, languishing in very grim children’s homes and, in one case, although innocent, inside a juvenile detention centre (bottom two pictures - before and after their rescue).
Some children have run away from home seeking their fortune in India while others have been trafficked. We managed to find these children, trace families who thought they were long since dead and make the necessary family reunifications.
In parallel with rescues we have tracked down traffickers and brought those who have abused Nepali children to justice. Fifteen child trafficking agents are now in prison or have served sentences, and trafficking from some areas of Nepal has dried up altogether.
